Friends & family support · with Adfam

When someone else’s drinking affects you, support is here for you too

When someone you care about is drinking too much, it can touch every part of your life. You might be worried about their health, their safety or your relationship. You may feel anxious, exhausted, frustrated or unsure what to do next.

You don’t have to face it alone. Through our partnership with Adfam, family members and friends can get support in their own right.

Support for you

Support for you, not just the person drinking

It’s natural to focus on helping the person you care about. But your feelings, your wellbeing and your needs matter too. Adfam offers a safe, confidential space to talk openly about what’s happening and explore what might help.

Adfam can help you to:

1

Talk it through

Share your concerns with someone who understands.

2

Better understand

Learn how alcohol use can affect family relationships.

3

Cope day to day

Find ways to manage the impact on your own life and wellbeing.

4

Build confidence

Build confidence to make decisions that are right for you.

5

Get practical help

Handle difficult situations and find other support when you need it.

You don’t need to have all the answers, and you don’t need to wait until things reach crisis point to ask for help.

You’re not alone

You don’t have to do this alone

Whether you’re a partner, parent, adult child, sibling or friend, you deserve support in your own right.

  • Partner
  • Parent
  • Adult child
  • Sibling
  • Friend

The person drinking doesn’t need to ask for help, agree to treatment or even recognise there’s a problem. You can get support for yourself, whatever their circumstances.

Families are part of recovery. They deserve support too.
